running on fumes

My apartment building will undergo fumigation in the near future. This is going to be fun. From what I understand, I’ll have to clear out the contents of my refrigerator. That means I’d better get cookin’. I also have to finish painting a bunch of ceramics since the unglazed pieces are porous and the fumes may or may not affect how well they take paint after.

I have an upcoming Cooking Class post but I don’t think I’ll get to it this week. Besides, y’all are too busy obsessing over your own T-Day fooding plans, anyways. Come back after Thanksgiving, if you’re still hungry.

Kill some time and read some things. Here are recommendations on the lengthier side, which make them perfect for a slow Monday (and a short week, if you’re celebrating American Thanksgiving).

The lampshade emerged from the wreckage of Katrina. But was it really what it appeared to be—a Buchenwald artifact made of human remains? A Holocaust detective story.

Beer is the Dom Perignon of the Amazon. The surest way to get everyone’s attention is to show up with an obscene amount. We had everyone’s attention.
Fascinating look into the business of wild chocolate.

If you don’t have time to read long articles, here’s a whimsical snack that will only take a bite.

Most cats enter feline agility competitions cold, but other cats are trained.
Let’s herd cats!

And also, because I have yet to tire of the following video clip of owls…

must… finish… projects…

I had these two tall mugs in reserve for whatever I was going eventually paint on them. Since I am now on a deadline, I painted them this weekend. They are a set. I tried doing some gradient colors on them (very difficult because of the opaque nature of the glazes) and using some dimensional glazes. We’ll see next week when I pick them up if they turned out all right.

Also, no, I’m not all that creative. I stick to motifs that are easy and somewhat fail-proof, hence the proliferation of the sunny skies theme. 😉

blog post round up

Let's all drink and make poor decisions! It seemed like a good idea at the time.   I make The Greatest Cereal Bowl Of All Time. I’m not going to sell it because I like it so much.
I decide to raffle off the The Greatest Cereal Bowl Of All Time. This is because I like competing in pool tournaments so much.
I play in the 2011 U.S. Open 9-Ball Championships. It’s a nice trip with plenty of shenanigans. I decide to take a break from pool. This is because I don’t like pool so much.
Now that I’m on vacation, I have more time to do things like cooking French onion soup and watching all the seasons of Dexter.
I went to Las Vegas for a league pool championship (that I was not a part of) and it was everything I thought it would be. Also, there were Canadians.

Barring a sudden burst of ridiculous blog productivity, there won’t be another post this week. But next week should be fun.

Eat lots and don’t forget to vote on my two little polls up there on the top of the right sidebar!

  1. I seem to remember at some point in the recent past I heard you had a great idea for a crafty craft for me. I have a hefty sum (somewhere between $20 and $25) waiting in my paypal when it’s ready.
